Homework Policy
Please remember to sign up for MarvellousMe and Arbor to keep up to date with how best to support your child at home.
Your child's logins for Century, Sumdog, TT and any Y6 specific apps are available from your child's class teacher. Please ask if you require these.
For pupils in Y5 and 6 please call at the school office to sign an IT loan agreement if your child needs to bring their school chromebook home every day.
Research shows that regular homework has a positive impact on progress, especially for secondary school students, which is one of the reasons to start getting your child into great routines now. Homework linked to classroom work is more effective, especially when students understand its purpose – whether to increase knowledge, develop fluency or apply learning in new contexts.
Homework tasks will vary depending on the subject and year group. These may include:
- Revisiting or extending classwork
- Reading or research
- Exam revision or practice questions
- Daily reading
- Spellings / phonics practise
- TT and other basic number fact recall

The amount of homework will increase as students progress through the school:
Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9)
Students will typically complete around 20–30 minutes of homework for core subjects, with additional time for reading each week.
Key Stage 4 (Years 10–11)
Students can expect to complete approximately 30–45 minutes of homework per subject, reflecting the increased demands of the Key Stage 4 curriculum.
Key Stage 5 (Sixth Form)
Independent study is an essential part of post-16 education. Students should expect to complete around 4–5 hours of independent study per subject each week, using non-contact periods effectively.
We want every student to feel supported with their homework. Our school offers a range of resources, including:
Homework club
A quiet, supervised space where students can complete their homework with access to teachers and resources.
Online platforms
Homework is set on Google Classroom so students can access tasks and resources easily.
After-school study sessions
Our study hub is open after school for students to use computers, complete coursework or seek help from staff.
Teachers will monitor the setting and completion of homework regularly, providing feedback to help students improve and deepen their understanding. Parents are encouraged to use the school planner or contact the school if their child needs additional support with homework.
Homework isn’t just about completing tasks – it’s about building confidence, reinforcing learning and discovering what’s possible.
